AICTE to offer tuition fee waiver for MBA, MCA and other PG courses

HYDERABAD: City students welcomed the All India Council for Technical Education’s () move as after engineering and other bachelor courses, tuition scheme (TFS) will now be made available to students opting for Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and other postgraduate diploma courses. Students lauded the move as many of them opt for jobs over post-graduation due to financial constraints.

Under this scheme, upto a maximum 5% of sanctioned intake per course will be allowed for waiver. Students, whose annual family income is less than 6 lakh from all sources, are eligible to apply under this quota.

“We have been getting requests from various quarters to extend the benefit of TFW Scheme to other post graduate courses. The matter was placed before the Executive Committee which deliberated and approved to extend the existing tuition fee waiver scheme only to MBA, MCA, PGDM, PGDCA courses in which no scholarship/stipend is available,” read a release from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Wednesday.

College managements said that as most of the students in the state are eligible for the fee reimbursement scheme, not many in Telangana opt for TFS.

“But, definitely having an alternate option should encourage more students to opt for postgraduate courses,” said Goutam Rao, president, Telangana Private Engineering Colleges Managements Association.
