BCS Dharampeth ex-princi booked for Rs1.4cr fraud

NAGPUR: Former principal of Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Dharampeth, along with her husband and daughter has been booked for fraud on Tuesday. The accused allegedly misused school funds worth Rs1.40 crore between 2005 and 2015 for personal benefits.

The accused have been named as Bhalerao, 62, daughter Tanushree and husband Samuels. The alleged fraud came to light after school management Regional Board of Education (MRBE) carried out an audit of school funds collected through fees and other sources.

Trustee of MRBE Vikas Kolhekar, who is also complaint in the case, told TOI, “When Mangla was principal of the school she had several disputes with the management. She was non cooperative and used to work by herself.”

In 2015, management and school teachers ousted Mangla following a three-day drama in which she had locked herself inside school premises. TOI had reported the incident on June 27, 2015.

“After she was unseated, we carried out an audit when we realised no banking transactions were made during her term, only cash changed hands. We investigated the matter and gave an application to Sitabuldi police. However, no action was taken so we approached Nagpur Bench of Bombay high court and it ruled in our favour.”

Police said that during Mangla’s tenure, she had made transactions and there was a gap of Rs1.40 crore in the income and expenses of school. Cops said Tanushree and Samuels helped Mangla cover up the misappropriation and also to forge her own birth certificate to extend her tenure by two years. It is learnt that during Mangla’s tenure no audit was conducted in the school that had led to dispute between management and her.

Police said during Mangla’s tenure, her daughter and husband had also collected fees money which was noted by peon. Police have registered a case after initial investigations. No arrest has been made.

Mangla refused to comment on the issue.
