Survey soon to set up 179 bus shelters in Noida

NOIDA: Noida may soon have the much required, state-of-the-art bus for Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), UP Roadways and private buses.
In its report, NMRC has suggested that some 179 are needed at 99 locations along the 10 routes across the city. As of now, the city has only 25 bus shelters, most of which are damaged.

Officials said on Wednesday that Noida Authority will now study the proposal and start the tendering process for the work in a phased manner in December.

SC Mishra, senior project engineer, Noida Authority, told TOI they had asked the NMRC to conduct the survey to identify the places where the bus shelters could come up.

“The NMRC has suggested that bus shelters should be built at 99 locations. We have asked them to provide a list of the locations that should be given priority,” he said. “E-tendering for the project can start in phases on the build-operate-transfer (BOT) from December,” he added.

According to the report, 25 bus shelters are needed along the Botanical Garden-Greater Noida Authority route, 17 along Sector 15 to 62 route, 14 shelters along Sector 12/22- Kasna route, 13 shelters along Botanical Garden-Sector 62/62 route, 12 along Botanical Garden-Kasna route, seven along Botanical Garden-KPMG-Advant route, five along Cape Town Society-Shashi Chowk route etc.

Recently, the Authority had also asked the regional Noida depot of the UP Roadways to conduct a survey on where bus shelters were required in the city. Assistant regional manager (ARM) Satyendra Verma said the last time bus shelters were built in Noida was in 2006. “Most of them are now either damaged or in a bad shape,” he said.

An official said that the lack of was discussed in a recent cabinet meeting of UP government too after which the project was given importance.
